An excessive amount of vegetation had grown up in the creeks feeding into Chesapeake Bay which blocked natural drainage. This was leading to flooding issues upstream, and due of the level of residential development along the banks of the creek there was no way to remedy the issue without approaching directly from the bay and working upstream.
Desperate for options the Virginia local contractor reached out to us looking for an ideas. We proposed using our smallest amphibious excavator, the EIK AM80 with an EIK 30 ft long reach front installed on the excavator. This solution would allow the contractor to float the machine across the creek when required and maneuver up the narrow creek removing silt and vegetation without creating any additional environmental damage. The ultra low ground pressure of our undercarriage minimized the rutting up of the adjacent terrain and allowed the contractor to concentrate on removing the material rather than repairing damage. This method worked out amazing well for the contractor as he was able to complete the contact ahead of schedule, under budget all without negatively impacting the environmentally sensitive surroundings.
